Avallo Web Development was founded in 1996 by Julie Hamilton and her friend, combining Julie’s creative expertise with her friend’s business acumen. At the time, Julie had over a decade of experience as an art director at various agencies and companies and owned Direct Design. Her partner brought a strong corporate background and experience running a tax business. Together, they saw an opportunity to enter the emerging world of website design while also continuing to provide traditional marketing services. In the early years, approximately 90% of their work focused on print marketing and only 10% on web design, as most clients were unfamiliar with the internet and unsure how to leverage it for their businesses. Julie spent a great deal of time educating clients on why having a website was becoming essential—even in the mid-90s—helping them understand the value of building an online presence as the digital world began to take shape.
From the beginning, Avallo stood out for creating visually stunning and innovative websites at a time when most sites were plain and text-heavy. As the internet evolved, so did Avallo—gradually shifting its focus and expanding beyond web and print design to include advertising strategy and branding. With a growing reputation and client base, the company became known for blending creativity with strategy to deliver impactful digital experiences.
Avallo Ownership
In 2005, Julie became the sole owner of Avallo and brought a renewed focus to advancing the company’s technology capabilities. She began hiring experienced programmers to expand the team’s technical skills and allow Avallo to tackle more sophisticated web applications. This new talent enabled the company to offer custom functionality and interactive experiences beyond traditional brochure-style websites. Julie was thrilled to finally have a team that could bring her creative marketing visions to life through powerful, user-friendly web platforms—further cementing Avallo’s position as a leader in creative web development.
Avallo began taking on increasingly complex website projects, and the company’s work flipped from being 90% print and 10% web to the opposite—90% websites and 10% print. With a growing reputation and client base, Avallo became known for blending creativity with strategy to deliver impactful digital experiences tailored to each client’s unique goals.
New CMS Launch
In 2009, Avallo launched a new custom content management system for websites called Avallo Panel. It allowed their clients to update and maintain their websites themselves- without any prior programming knowledge.
In 2014, Avallo took its web development expertise to the next level and offered Custom CMS, a fully responsive website-building program. It is completely customizable for creators while still being easy and intuitive for the end user, with many added features, including drag-and-drop technology for pictures and documents, a search function for both finding and moving pages, templates, files, and new and improved plugins.
