FAQ #4 - Should I be involved with social media?
Oct 29th, 2010 9:10 pmHappy Halloween! Hope everyone has a safe and fun weekend with lots of treats. This week's question is asked by a lot of small business owners who aren't quite sure whether or not social media is right for their niche. There are a few questions you will need to ask yourself to find out for sure, but hopefully this post will help clear up some of that confusion for you.
Should I be involved with social media?
The answer to this question is quite different for everyone. Are you interested in a 2-way communication with your customers? Does your demographic frequently use or consume social media? Are you looking for a unique way to market your brand? Or, are you simply trying to stake a claim and working on establishing a web presence? If so, social media might be the right outlet for you.
If you decide to take the plunge into social media networks, there are some other questions you will want to ask yourself:
- Which social media platforms should I use?
- How often should I update my company's profile?
- How will my demographic find my profile on popular social media sites?
While business to business companies may consider getting involved with social media simply to establish their presence on such sites, it is becoming more crucial for business to consumer companies to have an active presence online. This may differ depending on a B2C's market demographics.
Bottom line is if your customers are on social media sites, there's a good chance that you'll want to be there, too. How and which sites to be on is another question I will tackle another week.
